Researchers studying the causes of various conditions and diseases continue to look at genetic factors that may increase a person's chances of getting these illnesses. They have found that while some conditions are caused entirely by genetic defects (for example, Turner syndrome), others may be caused by multiple factors, including genetics, environment, and other things (this could potentially be the case with autoimmune hepatitis, schizophrenia, and temporal arteritis). With conditions or diseases that are caused entirely by genetics, the cause can sometimes be an extra chromosome (such as with Klinefelter syndrome), a missing chromosome (such as with mosaic Turner syndrome), or a mutation in a gene (which is the case with Marfan syndrome), among other things.
