Marfan Syndrome Prognosis

Marfan syndrome is a lifelong disorder. However, the outlook for people with Marfan syndrome has improved in recent years.

Early diagnosis and advances in medical technology have improved the quality of life for people with Marfan syndrome and lengthened their lifespan. In addition, early identification of risk factors (such as aortic dilation) allows doctors to intervene and prevent or delay complications.

The advances researchers are making in understanding the causes of Marfan syndrome -- and the potential treatments -- provide hope for the future. With an early Marfan syndrome diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the life expectancy for someone with Marfan syndrome is similar to that of the average person.
